There are days. You know them. You’re in a fog. You barely even know what the person you sleep next to every night looks like. Maybe you haven’t actually seen them in a week? This…is unacceptable. Having a solid marriage requires a connection that serves as the foundation of our family. Let’s get inspired! I have compiled a list of amazing ideas from cheap to fancy, simple to detailed ways to date your spouse.
Cheap and Local Ways to Date Your Spouse
We live in a relatively small town. Land-wise, it is actually pretty big but as far as things to do, sometimes we have to get creative. We have lived here a long time and have watched it grow over the years so we tend to get really excited when new things come to town. I have found that when we love where we live, we actually appreciate the dates more. What do we do locally that’s cheap? This can depend on where you live. Make finding ways to date your spouse in the place you live an adventure!
Local coffee shops are a perfect cheap date that invokes talking and conversations, interaction with local community, and creativity. Bring a planner and talk about what’s to come for you. Plan projects and new places to visit. If you’re a creative type, coffee shops are known for being a creative catalyst. Bring a sketchbook, journal, or writing paper. Sit on the patio and relive amazing memories together. But most importantly, enjoy each other and the quality time.
Any foodies out there? Check out local farmer’s markets. In all of our travels, if there is one thing I have learned is universal, its that there are food markets everywhere from large cities to small towns. Turn it into a game of finding foods for your spouse to try and maybe learn something new!
Make it a Night In
Staying in can be more fun than going out! YouTube has a multitude of date night painting at home videos. Do a simple search and modify what you are looking for. Grab some sushi, a selection of cheeses from your local grocery store, or whatever easy finger foods you like, and top it off with a bottle of your favorite wine. You can find all the supplies easily at a local craft store or in an all-in-one kit. This is a date that will be full of laughs and fun in your own home with minimal expense.
Find Adventure Ways to Date your Spouse
Are you adventurous? Take a kayak ride! Local places rent them or maybe, if you’re really adventurous and plan to do this more often, find yourself one on Craig’s List or a local Facebook group. There are some amazing nighttime bioluminescence tours which, when combined with dinner, make quite a romantic date night.
Do you live near nature trails or biking trails? Find some local adventure. Go on a hike, a bike ride, or walk to a lake or river. Pack a picnic basket and make a day of it. Fresh air and exercise can do amazing things to our brains and body not to mention our relationships. The best part about this date is it is free!
This one is for all you athletic couples. Find local climbing gyms and spend the day. Being active together is a great way to have fun and stay connected and work together. This one can tend to be a little more expensive but some gyms offer memberships if its something you may return to do more often. Also, check Groupon for deals that you might be able to cash in on!
If you are looking for an easy getaway and don’t mind spending a little bit of money, check out AirBnB.There are some incredible, cheap, and local destinations that can make an ideal staycation. What better way to learn to love where you live than by staying and exploring. Find a place that fits not only your budget but style. Be open and flexible to get the best deals.
Date Night on a Budget
Let’s go simple! If you are short on time or money, jump in the pool or hot tub, read a book aloud together, put on some music and dance in the kitchen while cooking, play a game, learn a craft, give each other massage nights, go geocaching, make a scavenger hunt through your town.
Put Date Night on Your Calendar
Dating your spouse sometime has to be intentional. Plan it. Get it on the calendar. Make it a habit. Get alone time in and dig down deep. Do it for each other and your marriage. Finding ways to date your spouse can be fun all on its own. Do whatever you need to get some time with your spouse. Trade babysitting with friends or have a date night at home after the kids go to bed. Set aside a few dollars and pick something free or cheap. It is so important and so very worth it. Take pictures and lots of them and don’t be sorry you did. Encourage your friends to do the same. Form a group that encourages each other and keeps you accountable.
We’d love to hear your ideas! Comment what you have done and let’s share!
