You knew keeping kids entertained was difficult before 2020, yet last year really put it into perspective! However, the times of adversity are when you learn the most about yourself and your loved ones, so it’s wrong to see those hours cooped up together as wasted.
Sure, you wanted nothing more than to leave the house without fear, yet it wasn’t possible. That’s why you soldiered on and turned into a glorified children’s entertainer. What’s good about this? Well, the fact that you’ll never have to worry about their attention span again, not with these four things you learned.
Who said parenting is hard?
Involve Them In Cooking
Cooking is your time for yourself. In the kitchen, you can get away from the children’s programs on TV and focus on grown-up stuff, such as making PB&J sandwiches! Sadly, leaving your kids staring at a screen all day isn’t helpful to their development, not when they can practice life skills while cooking. For example, you can ask them to measure the ingredients for your recipe or get them to read the instructions out loud. With any luck, they’ll turn into wannabe Gordon Ramsays, and you’ll never have to slave over a hot stove again!
Build A Fort
Adults have to be kids sometimes, too. There is a time and place for letting your hair down, and it’s at home when you have so much free time that you’re worried the day will drag. Invoking your kids’ imaginations is imperative since it will make up for lost time while they’re not at school, or learning remotely. And, the great thing about a fort is that it’s practical and fun, and it can go on all day! After all, once it’s built, you can furnish it and play in it.
Buy Them Toys
Another way to stoke their imaginations is to buy them toys. All they need is something in their hands, and they’ll make up an entire world in a couple of seconds. Even better, they’ll spend all day tweaking it and coming up with new concepts. A fantastic trick is to get them presents based on their favorite TV shows and characters. Super Wings character toys are becoming more and more popular for this very reason, while Peppa Pig and Power Rangers action figures are leading the market. Using characters they know and love gives them a hit of their favorite shows without the harmful side-effects of screen time.
Get Out
Every state is different, which means you need to check your local rules before going outside. Still, almost zero towns and cities lockdown residents for 24-hours a day. Usually, loopholes allow you to go places, such as to the store for groceries or the park for exercise. When you leave home, you should take your kids along for the ride. Then, they can experience new surroundings and enjoy a small slice of normality.
There you have it. If you’re ever in a pickle and need to keep your kids occupied, you can rely on what you learned during a global pandemic!
