Your baby is coming and you have many things to plan, as well as focusing on the style and design of the nursery. One of the most common doubts for parents, whether it’s first or next, is how to decorate the room. Whilst it may not be an immediate issue, as some parents keep the baby with them for the first few months, there will come a time when you need to look at how to decorate. However we have some tips today to assist you with this quest. The environment in which to spend your first few months will be essential. You need to make the little one feel safe and give the right amount of stimuli.

The decision of the color of the room, the great dilemma

Deciding color is one of the crucial points, it is not a decision of what it is when it comes to decorating the baby room. Before that, white, pink and white blue were on offer, and that’s where the problem ended. But if you don’t want to follow tradition, the color range expands almost infinitely. Colors bring emotions, and those feelings can be positive or negative. So find out what are the best colors to sleep in and be calm. You can achieve this with soft tones, and it doesn’t have to be a single color or range, but you can combine several colors, creating contrast. If the room is smaller, then bright colors, whites, pearly shades and pastels will help it look bigger. You should also paint the ceiling lighter than the walls to make it look higher. You can look at lemon shades or delicate greens which are also gender fluid so that you can decorate before knowing the sex of the baby!

The furniture to decorate the baby room

Choose the furniture for the baby’s room and keep the same furniture until at least the baby is a child. You don’t need to switch things up every year; these items should last so make sure you choose well. The one thing that will change, of course, is the bed. As they move from crib to bed, you will need to find a good supplier. You could look at toddler beds from Cuckooland for example. Multifunctional furniture is ideal, because you can use it for many different purposes and still save space. The baby’s dresser should be adapted for you. Have enough storage space for their clothes, changing needs etc. You don’t want to run out of space to store things.

A room that meets the baby’s needs

In the first few months of life your baby will only eat, sleep and learn. These are the three basic needs that your bedroom environment must meet. The waking moment is also of learning, catching everything they hear, see and smell, and it is important that your room complements this with a place of comfort. Choose your covers and quilts wisely also. The sheets should be soft, we recommend organic cotton, so that it is breathable and safe for babies as some materials are quite suffocating which can be harmful for the baby.

An element that shouldn’t be missing from the crib are little decorative items that hang above for their amusement. There’s almost everything you can imagine, rabbits, bears, moons, stars, dolls… If you’re skilled, you can even make them yourself. The most important thing is that these little decorative pieces provoke the child in their movement, but don’t use bright lighting or anything overstimulating.

It’s not all about decor though, it is also about safety. Safety  –  from the very beginning. It is worth taking the issue of safety seriously.  Newborns barely move and will stay in the same spot in the cradle.  But, babies grow up very quickly and with age comes curiosity whether it’s putting anything roughly in the mouth, or trying to climb furniture.   Therefore, in the field of safety, you should fix furniture and accessories well to the wall to ensure that the corners of the furniture and shelves are secure. Also remove toxins such as strong cleaning products, and use natural instead, such as lemon juice. If there are older pieces of  furniture in the room that have been painted and replenished, it is a good idea to make sure that the paint does not peel and that it is water-based.

Unique design that will thrill!

Today you can get endless inspiration for designing baby rooms on Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook.  There are many beautiful and special design styles that can be imitated, and anything you choose to do for your baby will turn out great. You don’t have to buy the most expensive things for a baby, in fact, quite the opposite. Buying second hand is not just great for your wallet but also for the planet. So look at local markets, second hand stores and more.

Look at vintage items also!  Put vintage items in the room to add a little style and uniqueness.  It can be furniture or objects and accessories that have been passed down through the family or things you have purchased and renewed.  If you’re not into vintage and then it’s a good idea to add a personal tone to the room with photos and decorations you’ve prepared yourself – you don’t have to be an inspired artist and training on Pinterest ranging from posters and prints to mobiles and knitted blankets. Of course it’s always cute to have plenty of toys and books for the kids. After all, this will become their safe space to learn and grow in time.

There is no need to spend a fortune, but with a little planning and a workable budget, you can make something very special and something that can be easily adapted as the baby grows and develops.  A good bed, sturdy furniture and delightful colours will bring the room to life! Any mother to be would be surely glad to hear that!
