4 Trusted DIY Essential Oils for Colds

DIY· Family Life· Oils

8 Oct

It is approaching that time of year again!  The media bombards us with warnings of the flu and getting flu shots.  It can be scary!  It is really important to take precautions and boost immunity.  We have already had a cold attempt to make their way into our house.  I just can’t have it.  We are too busy and have too much fun planned to be down and out with a cold.  We prepare for the cold season with our own DIY essential oils for colds.

What are essential oils?

We use essential oils for colds for many reasons, but what are they?  The easy description is they are oils derived from plants and roots.  They give us nature’s defenses and as a bonus; we get the amazing aromas and mood boosting benefits as well.

We personally use Young Living Oils.  The benefits are endless.  Be sure to purchase oils that are in their purest form as some can be made with synthetics and they will not have the same effect. On top of the fact that they are really bad for you to breathe and ingest.

How can I use essential oils?

I got started with oils simply to help my daughter who had asthma.  There is an amazing oil called RC for respiratory congestion.  This led us into a world of amazing immune boosting support.

I am not naïve enough to believe that we will never experience sickness or have a need for medicine.  Modern medicine is amazing and we use doctors and medicine all the time.  But we have found that the measures we have taken have reduced the amount of time we stay sick and how often we get sick.

Recipes for Essential Oils for Colds

There are a few stock items to have when getting ready to prepare your oils.

  • Glass Roller Balls
  • Almond Oil (Carrier oil of any sort will work.)

  • Fill the remainder of the bottle with carrier oil.

Bath Tub Flu Bomb

essential oils for colds bath bomb

This is my favorite essential oil remedy for cold and flu!  Nothing feels better than a hot bath when you’re feeling sick.  But add one of these amazing bath bombs and you can transport yourself to another world of wellness.

What you will need:

  • Bath bomb molds

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup citric acid (Get baking soda and citric acid together for a great deal!)
  • 1/3 cup Epsom salt
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 5 drops RC essential oil
  • 5 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 5 Drops Thieves essential oil
  • 3 Tbsp coconut oil
  • Your choice of food color

Mix dry ingredients together.  Mix dry ingredients with coconut oil and drop oils in.  Mix together until there are no lumps.  Drop 3-4 drops of food color for coloration.

Use molds to form into a very packed ball and wipe away excess.  Place on a tray to dry overnight.

Drop into a bath and float away to wellness!
