Who doesn’t love a treat now and then? While it’s important to treat yourself now and then, too many treats can be bad for your health, and your finances. If you add up how much you spend on takeout coffees, sweet treats and takeout dinners each month, you could be surprised at the amount.

When you’re trying to save or stick to a budget, it’s things like treats and takeout that need to be among the first to go. That doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy them now and then; you just need to get a bit more creative!

Here are some of the ways you can cut out takeout treats by making them at home instead.

Find a great coffee you can make at home

If a takeout coffee is usually one of your daily expenses, it could be costing you nearly $100 a month! Could you use that money elsewhere?

Of course, takeout coffee has its appeal. It’s brewed by trained baristas, and there are all kinds of flavors and combinations available to you. But if you can make your own great coffee at home, it could end up being a big game-changer for you. Try the best coffee beans for pour over drinks and you’ll be enjoying tasty coffee at home in no time. Why not save what you would have spent each day and watch it add up?

Get baking

You can’t beat a sweet treat to give you a little pick-me-up during the day. But every croissant, muffin or donut you buy is eating into your budget. So why not learn to make them at home? Even novice bakers can make some fantastic goodies with a bit of practice and a great recipe. Check out some of the best dessert recipes to give you some ideas for some naughty treats you can bake at home.

Be better prepared with lunches

Lunch is another area where you could easily save money each day. By making lunches yourself, you can avoid having to go out each day, and can make sure you eat something more wholesome and healthy. There are ways to save money eating at home that could surprise you, leaving you with money left over to put towards other things.

Turn takeout favorites into your new signature dish

Do you regularly get takeout when you want to treat yourself? Takeout is easy and convenient, but it’s also expensive. But the good news is that many takeout favorites can be made at home, and even made healthier and lighter too! There are a lot of tasty dishes you can make easily, which could soon become your signature! From your favorite Asian dishes to deep dish pizza – nothing is out of the question!

Saving money can be easy if you’re willing to change some of your habits, and your treat spending can be one of them! Challenge yourself to make some cutbacks and make more at home, and watch those extra dollars add up in your account!
