In life, confidence is pretty much everything – for people of all ages. If you’re not feeling too good about yourself and your self-esteem has dropped somewhat, then it can affect everything you do thereafter. You can have all of the knowledge and the work ethic tucked away, but if you don’t have the confidence to apply it, then it may as well not exist. This applies to your children, too, of course. If you are a parent, then you’ll know all about how your kids feel about certain parts of life. You know what makes them happy and what makes them feel a little less so. You also know what they’re like when they’re in the best mood and what they’re like when they feel down. Surely, you’ll want to ensure that they’re as confident in life as they possibly could be?
When a person is very young, the way they feel as they grow up plays a big part in how they’ll feel later on in life. If they have a good childhood and are confident in their impressionable years, then they’ll likely grow up to be confident when they’re fully-fledged adults. This isn’t always the case, obviously, but the chances tend to be high. If their brains are trained in such a way, then their natural inclination will be to feel confident and positive.
So, how do you go about making your kid(s) feel more confident as they progress through the earlier stages of life? Fortunately, it’s not actually that difficult to deal with. It’s just a case of being consistent and reinforcing a few ideas. Here are some of the things you can do:
Bring Them Up In A Positive Environment
If your children are around happy, positive people, then it’s going to rub off on them. Negative environments with pessimistic families tend to breed negative children who will worry about every little thing. At the end of the day, kids need to feel as though everything will be okay in the end – even during the most testing of times. If you can emit positive energy, then you’re going to have a more confident kid on your hands. If they go into instances with a smile and come out picking the positive aspects, then they’re going to be mentally ready for most things going forward.
Allow Them To Be Around Friends
During this time, it’s probably wise that they don’t mix too much because you never know when covid might strike. When things clear up a little, however, it might be a good idea to encourage them to go out a little more. If they’re quite reserved and shy, then going out as a family and letting them explore different things would help this. A lot of confidence and self-esteem comes from going out and being sociable.
Help Them With Their Academic Life
Intelligence isn’t everything, but it certainly helps when it comes to the way someone can feel about themselves. Not having the highest intellect isn’t important, but knowing a thing or two about life and certain subjects you might be interested in do. If you have things to talk about or you have knowledge in a certain area, it just makes you more of a confident person overall. It makes you feel more useless and less like an outcast. So, help them out with their school work and don’t be afraid to give them some extracurricular tasks. Again, they don’t need to be geniuses, but competence will give them a lot more of a boost in life.
Make Sure You’re Satisfying Their Bellies
If they have energy each day, then they’ll be both mentally and physically equipped to deal with whatever comes their way. When it comes to eating enough and drinking enough water, we often think about the physical ramifications. The mental side also takes a knock when you have little energy, too, so take this into account with regard to your children. Ensure they’re getting enough sleep, also. For many, not being a morning person is just an annoying part of life – for others, it can be really quite damaging.
Keep Them Active
This means in terms of both physical activity and mental activity. If they’re continually on their feet and doing productive things, then they’re going to feel better about themselves. Likewise, if they’re learning new tidbits all of the time, then their active brain will always be stimulated. This is important as an idle child can start to feel very self-conscious very quickly.
Teach Them About Basic Chores And Domestic Jobs
If they know what they’re doing in terms of everyday life, then they’re going to feel a little happy about where they are. A lot of parents will do chores for the kids and never, ever teach them. The kids grow up a little incompetent and turn into even more incompetent grown-ups. Don’t let your kids go down this route. It’s so important that they learn and become more accomplished versions of themselves.
Encourage Them To Do Things They Want To Do
If a child isn’t doing things that make them happy, it can get them down. Sure, they’ll have to deal with the fact that they won’t get their own way with everything, but if they literally have no fun, then it’s going to depress them some. If they want to follow a particular hobby or passion, then encourage them. When someone gets to live life how they want, it makes them so much more confident because it makes them feel as though nothing can stop them from achieving their dreams. Many parents put out a particular flame by telling them not to pursue something as it would be pointless. They throw a spanner in the works because the child isn’t living the life that they themselves want them to live. Don’t be like that.
